The new ‘Hidden Treasures’ room of the Navy Museum in Den Helder has become a multifunctional place. Not only museum visitors but also invited guests are welcome to discover the Royal Navy during a diner or reception.
The Navy Museum’s collection consists of as many as 80,000 objects. A big part of this has been kept behind closed doors for future generations. The ‘Hidden treasures’ exhibition gives full attention to some objects preserved for years. Paintings, ship models, ship decorations, awards, ship bells, banners, sculptures and silverware colour the history of the Royal Navy from the 17th century to the present day.

Bruns realised the multifunctional space in its entirety according to Perspekt Studio’ 3D design. This means that walls were installed dividing the space. Large side showcases were realised including the furnishings. But also the carpet, the pedestal for Neptunes, the wind rose ornament on the ceiling, the graphic walls, touchscreens and lighting.

This project came about through a great collaboration. Both expertises, the museum and Bruns, were put to the best possible use. This included finding a way to install solid structural walls and enormous corner display cases in a listed building, where little or no drilling was allowed in the floor and ceiling.

The purpose of this room was clear: show off! The combination of the design and execution were very successful. The room turned out exactly as it should: chic, multifunctional and aimed at displaying very valuable collection form the rich history of the Dutch Navy.
With this new space, the Navy Museum is equipped to receive museum visitors, receptions and other gatherings.
